Siddal close in on top spot with hard fought win. See reports......................SIDDAL will be looking to take a step closer to top spot in the National Conference Premier Division when they travel to Ince Rose Bridge tonight.
The Chevinedge side, who remain on course to equal last season's stellar double-winning acheivements, moved up to second with two games in hand on leaders Leigh East after Saturday's stunning 41-16 win at third placed Skirlaugh.
And with Easts in National Cup action at the weekend, Lee Greenwood's side can draw level with victory tonight and in Saturday's combined league and National Cup date with Wigan St Patrick's.
"We played really well at Skirlaugh, the best I have seen us play over there," said Greenwood, whose side have eight league fixtures left to play.
"It's not often they get beaten at home by that sort of score.
"When you put that together with the Doncaster game in the Challenge Cup, we're starting to find some form at last.
"There's a good incentive there now for our next two games and hopefully we can take advantage.
"Ideally, I want us to do what we did last year and wrap up top spot as early as we can, which would give us a couple of games to do a bit of rotation before we start the play offs.
"It could still work out that way, it's all in our own hands, but there are a lot of games left to play."
Siddal's starting side is likely to show half a dozen changes tonight, with injuries and work commitments making Greenwood's selection tricky.
Andy Bowman, Luke and James Simeunovich, Brad Attwood and Chris Marsh are all likely to be absent, although front rower Mark Boothroyd should return after missing Saturday's game through illness.
"The midweek games are always the same, and we probably won't finalise things until tonight," said Greenwood.
"But we've a strong squad and they all know how we play so we'll still be confident." Bus will be leaving at 4:45pm |
